Boat, two men go through Keokuk dam

A boat carrying two people, whose names have not been released as of 3:12 p.m. today, was swept through the Mississippi River dam at Keokuk.

One person was pulled out of the river alive, according to Terry and Pam Hamelton of Mesa, Ariz., who reported the emergency. The other person has not been found, despite several search and rescue teams trolling the river in boats.

Neither are believed to have been wearing life jackets.

Keokuk fire and police departments, Lee County Ambulance and Keokuk Volunteer Rescue Corps responded.
